Wool Sleep Sacks at Bundles of Joy
Winter isn't over yet! If your little one is cold from kicking off the blankets and/or soaking through their diaper at night, a wool sleep sack will solve both problems. My sleep sacks are made from two layers of recycled wool. The inside layer is always something very soft (like merino wool or cashmere). Overall straps attach to the front with plastic snaps (several settings make them adjustable). A long zipper up the front makes the sleep sack easy to get in and out of.
I have one finished sleep sack in my shop right now:
This one is fans out quite large at the bottom. It fits my almost-three-year-old (just barely), and should still work for a baby as young as 6 months.
I also have a listing for a custom sleep sack. Buy the custom listing and I will make one just for you. You tell me the exact size & shape you would like, as well as your color and design preferences.
To see some of my past custom sleep sacks, visit the Bundles of Joy blog.

Getting to know Little Muffin Bottoms:
What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop? I loved the idea of a place that promoted people's creativity and thinks as I do that handmade is better.
What is one piece of advice you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering? I wish I had known about snappi’s. They are just a wonderful invention. My intro to cloth was 16 years ago with prefolds and pins. I am just not that coordinated.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop? Spending time with my husband and children.
What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why? I love the little NB/XS diapers. Besides being functional they are just so darn cute!
What is your favorite material to work with? That’s tuff I guess I’d have to say Organic cotton knit
How long has your shop been open? I listed my 1st items on December 9th 2009.
Personal bio: I’m a RN turned WAHM with 4 girls and a very supportive husband. I love creating functional items that help keep people and our environment healthy. I enjoy sewing, knitting, crochet, working in my organic orchard and garden and playing with my family.

Night time diapering
I think for many cloth diapering parents, night time diapering is a little intimidating at first - "will it last all night? will it leak? will it be too bulky? will it be smelly?..." My son leaked out of his disposables almost every night - we tried sizing up, different brands, night time versions, anything I could find! My cousin suggested cloth, and gave me some Dream-eze to try with a wool cover. I was amazed. No leaks??? Wow! After that, I was hooked for daytime, too.
So what does it take to use cloth at night? Of course it depends on your wetter, if they're a front sleeper, a girl or a boy. Not any one system will work for everyone. It WILL take some trial and error. But once you figure it out, I guarantee you'll wish you ditched disposables long ago.
Here are a few options:
- Prefold with infant prefold tri-folded as a doubler
- Fitted with extra doublers
-PLUS-
- Thick/felted wool cover
- Fleece cover (with wetzone doubler for night)
- PUL wrap/cover with elastic at the legs
-OR-
- Double (or triple) stuffed pocket diaper (PUL or fleece)
- Check out these night time specific options from our team!
* As your child gets older, they won't need as much absorbency at night.
* Bamboo is a great choice for night because it has less bulk compared to cotton.
* Some people find microfiber retains the smells more than natural fibers.
* Remember you may need to size up in covers for night time use to help cover the extra fluffy bum (especially in the rise). Wool is usually more stretchy than fleece, however a heavily felted wool cover will not have as much stretch as a daytime cover, but will be "bulletproof" against leaks.
* Some doublers are thicker than others, so you may need two extra, or four!
* An inexpensive doubler for pockets is a tri-folded microfiber towel (its not recommended to put microfiber directly against baby's skin).
Leaks:
- Make sure ALL of the diaper is tucked into the cover to prevent wicking
- I personally found that pockets wound up wicking at the legs overnight, so covering with a fleece cover helped protect clothing. Also, it was harder for me to avoid leg leaks with pockets when they were super stuffed.
- If you're using a wool cover, ensure that it is properly lanolized. You may need to add extra lanolin to your wool wash for night time covers.
Moisture rashes:
Sitting in a warm, wet diaper all night may cause your baby to be sensitive to wetness (Mine personally had a rough time with this!).
Here are some tips to avoid rashes:
- use a diaper safe barrier cream (or even Lansinoh) or baby powder every night.
- use a microfleece diaper liner to help wick moisture away from the skin if your diaper doesn't already have something like that.
- use a breathable cover (wool or fleece) rather than a PUL cover or pocket. This helps regulate the temperature in the diaper, as well as lets any extra moisture evaporate out.
Washing:
Depending on how often you are doing diaper laundry, you may not need to do anything different with your night diapers. I am only using diapers at night for my 3 year old, so can go a week without doing laundry, however I have found that I need to do it more often to keep the stinkies away. I also rinse them each morning since they'll be sitting awhile. Sometimes I add vinegar to the pre-rinse to help counteract the ammonia. A super hot wash really helps as well.
They may have a hard time walking with a lot of extra fluff between their legs - but their bums (and the environment) will thank you for it! Share your night time success system here, leave a comment!

Personal bio:
Holden's Landing is owned and operated by Bonnie Vontz, a single wahm from Connecticut. Bonnie homeschools her 2 children, McKenna (9) and Holden (6). Bonnie learned to sew and knit as a child, but didn't pick them back up again until just before Holden's birth ... and now can rarely be found without a sewing or knitting needle in hand.

3 Monkeys Cloth Diapers: Fluff-a-rump on hump day feature and giveaway!
Shop link: http://www.etsy.com/shop/3monkeysclothdiapers
Getting to know 3 Monkeys Cloth Diapers:
What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop? I had been selling on another website for over a year, then found Etsy and discovered a world I love being a part of!! Etsy is such a great community :) I love working with fellow craftsman and providing handmade items to customers both domestic and international. What is one piece of advice you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering? Don't give up in the beginning. The first 6 months is very time consuming and can be the breaking point for many mommas. Find the perfect diaper for your babe and then go with that.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop? I love my kiddos and I find great joy in just playing and reading with them. I am a workaholic, so I have to keep myself in check so that I don't work my day away and skimp on baby time.
What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why? my diaper cakes. There are many diaper cakes out there with disposables, but this is the only one I have found with AIOs and what momma could not love that???
What is your favorite material to work with? minkee, I had been resistant to try it, but once I did I can't get enough of it!!
How long has your shop been open? I have had my shop open for a little over a year, Jan. 2, 2009.
Personal bio: I have been sewing since I was 6 or 7 years old. My mom taught me to make Barbie clothes and I have been making this and that ever since. My cousin was the one who persuaded me to make diapers to sell after I gave her the first diapers I had made. Now, I have a business that allows me to help the hubby with bills and still stay home with the best kids on earth!!

What we ♥ about cloth diapering
In honor of Valentine's Day, this week's diaper info post is a list of why we (as cloth diaper makers) love using cloth diapers for our little ones.
We love...
We love...
- Knowing that my baby is comfortable in soft fabric rather than rough paper or sticky plastic. (LilBees)
- How soft they are on my babies bum. (PudderPals)
- That they aren't made of paper products ☺(Suzanne'sSpecialKids)
- That they are not crinkly or smell like fake baby powder (WinkyDinks)
- That they don't smell like chemicals when they pee in cloth diapers. (LittleMooseDiapers)
- That they are a conversation starter (WinkyDinks)
- How cute they are - its another part of their outfit (WinkyDinks)
- How cute and fluffy it makes my little one's bum. (PudderPals)
- Having something cute on their buns ☺ Disposables are not cute... (3MonkeysClothDiapers)
- That I get to be creative and make whatever I think is cute into a butt cover to use over and over and over...(Chelory Boutique)
- Being able to pick and choose which cute item they'll be wearing on their bum! (LittleMooseDiapers)
- That they like their diapers and choose which one they want to wear next. (3MonkeysClothDiapers)
- That even though my diapers are OSFM (one-size-fits-most) the absorbency isn't. I can have light absorbency one day and then bump it up the next. (PudderPals)
- That it doesn't matter if the baby pees/poops mere seconds after I put on a new dipe because I can just toss it in the wash, I'm not out 50cents for 5 seconds of use. (LilBees)
- That since I have twins, can I just tell you how much money I have saved by cloth diapering???? (3MonkeysClothDiapers)
- That since I've had one or another in diapers for the last 3 years, with another one coming soon...all the money we've saved has allowed me to stay home with the children! (LittleMooseDiapers)
- That I don't ever run out of diapers! (PudderPals)
- That I don't have to plan ahead to make sure that I never run out of diapers...if I'm running low I just throw them in the wash. ( LilBees)
- That they can be made to look like real undies (Suzanne'sSpecialKids)
- That they can be completely customized for my special needs child (Suzanne'sSpecialKids)
- That they add a bit of "typical" to a special child's life ☺(Suzanne'sSpecialKids)
- That I have made my children's diapers with my own hands...there is a sense of independence and accomplishment in that. (LittleMooseDiapers)
- I am always super proud to say, yes I made that!! (3MonkeysClothDiapers)

Cloth wipes
If you're already using cloth diapers, cloth wipes are an easy transition! You can wash them with your diapers and not need to worry about tossing disposable wipes separately (Or having them go through the wash on accident).
It's EASY! You can use regular washcloths, baby washcloths, make your own, or buy them from our wonderful team! I've found that terry cloth and flannel works the best for us, but you can also find them in velour, sherpa, and other fabrics. The terry seems to really have "scrubbing power", if you know what I mean.
I fold them and keep them in a basket with a foamer bottle of wipes solution. You can also use a spray bottle or spritzer bottle. Some people also use a wipes warmer and keep wet cloths handy (just be carefuly of mildew problems). You can get wipes solution in a liquid form, cube form, or you can also make your own! Some people just wet them in the sink with warm water on their way to the changing station.
For traveling, you can keep a small bottle of wipes solution, dry wipes, and a small wetbag. This also works really well for clean-ups on the go (at the park, restaurants, Grandma's house, etc.). (In fact, after switching to cloth wipes for baby bums, we've switched to cloth "kleenex" at our house since they're so much softer!!!)
Please leave a comment and share your cloth wipes ideas!
