Isn't it getting too warm for wool? It's almost spring! Let me dispel your doubts--wool diaper covers are great ALL year round! OUR BIG MARCH GIVEAWAY:
Description:
Size Small – Diaper cover/soaker body made from a lambswool sweater and a brown 100% cashmere waist with lambswool cuffs. There is an absorbent wool soaker in wet zone. 100% recycled wool sweaters.
My soakers are washed and felted but not lanolized.

Waist – 14”-18.5”
Thigh – 7.5”
Rise - 15.75"
About My Wool Covers:Wool is naturally antibacterial, absorbent, and has waterproof properties.
All my products are “felted” which means they have been washed and dried to enhance the waterproof aspects. Wool helps keep moisture away from little bottoms while still remaining dry. Unlike plastic covers wool covers allow air to circulate helping to prevent diaper rash.

Wool Cover #2 Comes from Katidids
It will be a custom hand-knit wool soaker similar to this, boyish or girly, in size NEWBORN to LARGE, which ever size is needed.
Wool Cover #3 Comes from Bright Rose Creations
Upcycled Wool Soaker, Size Medium, Green and Tan, Gender Neutral --
This is a repurposed wool soaker made out of sweaters that have been carefully deconstructed, and then re-assembled into something you and your baby can use! The green body is 100% wool, and the tan leg cuffs are 100% cashmere. These colors would look great on a boy OR a girl.
I made this particular soaker to have an extra long rise, so it is PERFECT for going underneath pants -- the waistband of the soaker will extend past the waistband of the pants, which will help to keep it in place. The soaker has been washed and lanolized, and is ready to use.
Measurements are:
Measurements are:
Rise = 20.5 inches
Waist = 18-23 inches
Legs = 11-15 inches
Wool is a fantastic cover to use over cloth diapers, because it is breathable, helps to regulate body temperature, is self cleaning, and really does a fantastic job to help the diaper work to it's full absorbing potential. I recommend using wool over fitteds, flats and prefolds if using pins. I do NOT recommend using a Snappi fastener with wool, because I find they can cause snags and holes.
Hand wash wool using room temperature water and wool wash bars or liquid. Allow to soak for 10 minutes. Drain, gently squeeze excess water. Roll in a towel to absorb moisture, then lay flat to air dry. Complete instructions for cleaning and lanolizing your soaker are included.
Bright Rose Creation's tips/comments regarding wool:
--Wool is my absolute, number one, preferred, "go - to" cover for cloth diapers. As long as the diaper underneath is absorbent enough, I have NEVER had a leak. Wool is fantastic for over nights - it makes your diaper absorb to the absolute maximum. I use wool over prefolds for overnight, and I find it to be an unbeatable combination.
--I never use a Snappi with wool, because I find that the Snappi will snag. I hate finding those pesky holes in the wool, especially when I know what caused them. So, my recommendation for using wool covers - use with fitteds (that close with hook and loop or snaps), or use over flats and prefolds that are closed with pins. Avoid the Snappi!
Wool Cover #4 Comes from GotemCovered
This soaker will be a custom made soaker in the size and colors of the winner's choice from S-M-L.
These wool covers are crocheted in tunisian/afghan stitch, which offers a tight weave for great wetness protection with a not so thick feel and fit!
The tunisian/afghan stitch is sometimes referred to as 'bulletproof' for night time care.
These covers were born from my sons' night time cloth diapering needs, when nothing else was working at night I started using wool and developed patterns for tunisian/afghan stitch covers
Many people feel intimidated by using wool, especially when it comes to washing it. I was nervous when i first started, but I feel like it is less work because you do not have to wash them as often (and really they do not stink after they dry...I did not believe this myself until I tried it)
When washing it is important to remember that skrinkage and felting occur from extreme temperature changes, temperature being too hot, and too much agitation. As long as you heed these things you will be fine.
If your wool covers start getting fuzzies you can use a sweater shaver to give a nice fuzz free appearance again.
Wool Cover #5 Comes from Winkydinks
Size Newborn/SMALL 100% lambswool soaker, upcyled from a sweater. It is multi-tone gray, very gender neutral. A great medium weight, for day or naps. Comes with sample of wool wash bar.
Measurements:
Waist: 12-14"
Rise: 15"
legs: 6-8"

I really want to try out wool covers but I'm not sure what to buy to care for it properly. I've read a lot about Eucalan soap and I also have small tubes of Lansinoh lanolin hanging around. Would those two items be enough or would I need to purchase more?

ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower! Would love to win these diapers! Might have to buy one even if I don't. Or find a pattern. We have a bunch of Bum Genius diapers that, for some reason, don't fit this baby! So I made a bunch of prefold diapers but only have 3 covers in one size. So I sure could use more :)
