For the month of may we are all about organic cloth diapering. Many ECDT members carry cloth diapering products made from all or partial organic materials.
Obviously, if it's organic, it must be naturally grown. The benefits of growing organically and using organically grown products are fairly well known and appreciated, the main ones for baby and the earth being the removal of toxic chemicals. While you do see organic cotton products being used in cloth diapers, more and more commonly you find organic bamboo and bamboo blends used in cloth diapers. You may have noticed the description "OBV" is some diaper listings, and this is referring to Organic Bamboo Velour. There is also bamboo fleece and heavyweight bamboo fleece. People use bamboo fabrics for many reasons: it is sustainable and fast growing without the use of pesticides, it has superior absorbing ability, it is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal. Organic materials in general may also eliminate any allergic issues that might occur with synthetic diapering materials.
While all these reasons are enough to make you want to choose all organic, organic materials are more expensive to purchase and attractive printed organic fabrics are not as easy to come by. Also, if you like the repelling nature of some synthetic fabrics, you will not find that with organics because they absorb, but do not repel. Although, with the high rate of absorption with bamboo, baby's skin will feel cool and dry for quite a while.
When it comes down to it, you have to choose what's right for your family. What are the important things to you about choosing which type of cloth diapers you will use? If the properties of organic materials appeal to you, shop with Etsy Cloth Diaper Team and use the search "Organic". And better yet, come back next Wednesday and enter our giveaway for this month which will include only organic products from several of our team members.
