Getting to know Betriska
What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?
I was selling my soakers and other items on eBay when a friend recommended Etsy to me.
How did your shop name originate?
It's a nickname for a nickname. Beatrice was switched to Betriska by a friend and I'm the only one!
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?
Those are my favorite things to do. So if I'm not knitting or sewing something for my shop I'm knitting or sewing for gifts or for myself.
What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?
My latest pair of handknit soakers are my favorite item in my shop right now. They are autumn colored - Pumkin and Black - and knit with a fairisle stitch!! They are also a larger size than I usually knit. And the 100% wool was a dream to work with.
What is your favorite material to work with?
My favorite materials to work with are as natural, organic and premium as I can find. Knitting - I love wool. Sewing - I adore fleece.
How long has your shop been open?
My shop opened in February of 2007
Personal bio:
When I first opened my shop I was living on a lake in North Carolina. I have knit ever since I can remember and so my shop is dedicated to handknits and what I can sew for people who love to knit! I have
designed a bag to carry small knitting in that I make from premium upholstery fabrics, so that you are never without your knitting!
In 2009 all three of my daughters were married. One in January. Another in April. The last got married in August and in September of 2009 I came to Hawaii.
I now live high-up on the volcano, off grid and using solar power for lights, a generator to charge the batteries if the sun isn't shining and propane to run the fridge, the stove and heat the hot water. I blog about Life on the Volcano and what I'm listing in my shop at blogger.
I spend my days with the wonderful man who brought me to Hawaii, sewing, knitting, reading and listing at Etsy. It is a good life and I'm happy to announce I now have a cloth diapered grandson to knit soakers for!
Aloha from Hawaii and Mahaolos nui loa (Thank you very much) for visiting Betriska.com
