Getting to know Beat's Boutique
What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?
I really started my shop with the intention of selling crocheted items, but quickly became obsessed with making things related to cloth diapering! I'm a stay at home mom of 4 (soon to be 5) and was looking for some way to earn a little extra to compensate for my fabric addiction :)
Where did your shop name originate?
I actually created my store when I was pregnant with my daughter Beatrice. She is named after my husband's Auntie, whose nickname was Beat. I really liked that as a nickname, thus Beat's Boutique.
What is one piece of advice you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering?
Pick a system!! I'm cloth diapering 2, and I have such a variety in my small stash that it's kind of chaotic and time consuming. My son is the easiest, with him I just use prefolds and fleece or wool covers. They work perfectly for him. But my daughter is a heavy wetter, so I'm constantly trying different things with her. Mostly pocket diapers.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?
Relaxing and watching television with my kids.
What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?
My Out of This World fleece soakers! My husband helped me with the design, and they were a lot of work, but I love how they turned out! I plan on doing other appliqued designs in the future. What is your favorite material to work with?
I love fleece! I had been picking up remnants for years without having ideas of what to use them for! So I was more than thrilled to learn about fleece soakers!
How long has your shop been open?
I started the store back in 2007, but never actually stocked anything until this past June.
Personal bio:
I am a stay at home mom to 4 (5 on holidays and summers, and due with my last baby in April!!). We live in a beautiful and remote area in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. I occasionally teach English courses or workshops part time at the local community college. When I'm not busy (haha!) I love sewing, crocheting and knitting.
