What got you started in selling your items in your Etsy shop?

I have been a crafter since I was old enough to hold a needle and thread so when I discovered Etsy it just seemed like a perfect fit..

How did your shop name originate?

My shop name came from my over use of the phrase “that is just too cute” at a friend’s baby shower. I was naming my shop a few weeks later and I just couldn’t get it out of my head

What is one piece of advice you wish somebody had given you when you started cloth diapering?

I wish someone would have told me how easy it is! Before I started I had all the images of wet pails and pins. I love the all the options and the ability to customize each diaper change to the baby’s needs at the time.

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not sewing/working for your shop?

I enjoy hanging out with my family & friends, reading, bike riding, and taking care of our chickens.

What is your current favorite item in your shop and why?

Currently, I really like my “Live Laugh Love” soaker.

What got you started in selling your items in your Etsy shop?

I made recycled wool covers for my daughter when she was born and loved doing it so I decided to open shop.

How did your shop name originate?

Named for my sweet daughter Violet!

What is one piece of advice you wish somebody had given you when you started cloth diapering?

It's easy and fun!

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not sewing/working for your shop?

I love spending time with my family, reading and outdoor activities.

What is your current favorite item in your shop and why?

I don't currently have any listed, but my all time favorite to make are my patchwork longies! They are fun, unique and help me use every scrap of wool! I have examples listed on my Facebook page.

What is your favorite material to work with?

Recycled wool and cashmere.

Since August of 2008.

Personal Bio:

I currently stay home with my 2 1/2 year old daughter Violet and I'm expecting baby (boy!) number 2 in early May. My family tries to live as "green" as we can by reducing, reusing, and recycling everything! :)

Getting to know The Jilly Bean Jar

What got you started in selling your items in your Etsy shop?

I'm a SAHM who loves to sew, knit, and crochet. I'm always looking for affordable and cute ways to cover my kids in their cloth, and I wanted to share my creations with others.

How did your shop name originate?

My nickname has been Jillybean since I was a little kid, so it seemed natural to use that in my Etsy shop name. The Jar part came in to play because what I stock is kind of a surprise... there's lots of variety and choice, just like in a jar filled with jelly beans.

What is one piece of advice you wish somebody had given you when you started cloth diapering?

Don't be afraid to try different styles and types of diapers. What works for one child may not work for another. I used one type of diaper for my daughter, and had to switch to another type for my son since they had different body types. Don't get frustrated if your first try doesn't work perfectly. There are lots of knowledgeable people out there to help you - just ask any of the Etsy Cloth Diaper team members!

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not sewing/working for your shop?

I love playing with my kids. My 2 year old has the most unique and entertaining sense of humor, and it's fascinating watching my 7 month old discover new things. I also love sewing, knitting and crocheting for my family as well, and most nights you'll find me with some yarn and a hook or needles in my hand.

What is your current favorite item in your shop and why?

I love my rocket longies. The elastic waist band means they're quick to pull on and off a squirmy baby or toddler. The wool is soft and thick, giving it great protection from wetness, and the rocket design is cute and unique.

What is your favorite material to work with?

I love working with soft wool yarn when I'm knitting or crocheting. When I'm sewing, fleece is one of my favorites!

How long has your shop been open?

My shop has been open since July of this year

My name is Jill Giovannetti and I live near Chicago with my husband and 2 year old girl and 7 month old boy. I started cloth diapering when my daughter was a newborn, and I made most of her diapers myself. From there I moved on to knitting and crocheting longies for her, and I haven't stopped since! In addition to sewing and yarn crafts, I also love baking and I'm always playing around in my kitchen trying to figure out how to make things tasty and healthy.

    If you are looking to start a Cloth Diaper Business be ready to understand that it is more than a hobby business and you will need some money to get started and it takes time for sales to happen.

Getting to know The Quirky Cat

What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?

    I'm a stay-at-home mama who loves to make items for my own kids.  I wanted to open up a shop to share some of these creations.

How did your shop name originate?

    It is inspired by my quirky little cat, Maggie.  It took me forever to come up with a shop name, too.  I truly think it's the hardest part of starting on Etsy.

What is one thing you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering? 

    Get a bigger diaper bag!  Cloth is a bit more bulky than 'sposies; also, passers-by often have questions about CDing and it's nice to have some cute examples on hand!

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?

    I love to round up my kids and husband, get out of the house, and start searching for new adventures.

What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?

    I'm really in love with my skirtie pattern because it is just so darn cute on a little girl! 

What is your favorite material to work with?

   Anything brightly colored!

    We opened in Spring 2010, but I've been sewing diapers for 2 years now.

What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?

    I used to sell on Ebay first, but with all of the fees, it just wasn't worth it, then realized Etsy would be better! :)

How did your shop name originate?

    My husband and I were brain storming and I thought of it and it just stuck with me. Although, I did open up a shop under Lil Hooligans but closed it and went with my original name Busy Bottomz.

What is one thing you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering? 

    Mmm... that you have to put the tab snaps on last!

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?

    Hanging out with my family and trying to get a couple of drum sessions in, my husband and I rival at whose better. ;)

    My name is Tasha. I am happily married to my soulmate. We have two super cute crazy boys 4 and 2. Everywhere I go, I hear the same thing.. "boy, you sure do have your hands full". And I sure do. Always on my toes, thanks to two cups of coffee every morning. So I first learned to sew from my mom. She's been a master seamstress making everything under the sun since before I was born. I first learned to serge at the age of 15 on an industrial serger (mind those fingers!) and took sewing classes in school of course. I do believe sewing can be very therapeutic except when you have those days when your machine just wants to eat you alive!!! Then you just want to throw it out the window. ;)

Getting to know PhineasGrace

What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?

    Following the birth of our children my good friend and I started making many products for our little ones that we either just couldn’t find in stores or quite simply weren’t happy with the commercially available options.  It wasn’t long before we had friends, family and a network of other moms we knew encouraging to sell our products and so PhineasGrace was born.

How did your shop name originate?

    Phineas and Grace are the middle names of our children.

What is one thing you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering?  I wish someone had told me how very important gussets are for keeping the messes in the diaper. 

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?

    Being physically active, whether it is a swim, bike or run when I’m training for a triathlon, a long walk with the dogs or running around the park with my son, I am always on the go.

What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?

    My current fave is my newest product the gusseted pocket diaper.  Not only are pocket diapers easy to use, they are versatile with your ability to use more or less inserts for day or night time use.  With the addition of a gusset this pocket diaper keeps even the biggest messes in.

How long has your shop been open?

    My Etsy shop opened in Oct 2009

    My name is Alex.  I’m 28 years old and in the final stages of a PhD in biochemistry.  I am married to the man of my dreams for a little over 2 years now and had to the most wonderful little monkey man 15 months ago.  Since my grandmother taught me how to hand sew at the age of 5 I have been in love with the hobby and ‘creating’ projects ever since.  Having a child had given my sewing a new purpose and renewed my passion for handmade goods, especially those which are sustainable and help keep our plant green for future generations.

Pocket diapers are the easiest and most versatile cloth diapering option on the market today.  Stuffing the pocket diaper with fewer or more inserts allows for customizable absorbency and quicker drying time than an all in one since the inserts are removable for washing/drying.  Once stuffed it is as easy to use as any disposable diaper, perfect for those reluctant parents/grandparents/daycare providers.  Want to reuse the shell?  Simply remove the soiled insert, lay a new insert topped with a fleecy stay dry liner and use it as an all in 2 diaper.  Add to that the unique feature of the PhineasGrace pocket diapers, gusseted leg openings which keep even the biggest of messes in and you have the perfect diaper.  Our diapers have a nice trim fit while still having a large size range thanks to crossover snaps at the waist and additional snaps on the arms to prevent wing drop.

Getting to know NorthernMom

What is one thing you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering?  
    I never thought that making diapers would be so addicting.  Why didn't anyone tell me??? 

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?

    I love to hang out with my family & play with the kids. 

What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?
    I love my Canadian Eh? Pocket Diaper.  Call it a twisted sense of humour, but the diaper was made in Canada, by a Canadian!  I only wish that I had it done in time for Canada Day (July 1st).

What is your favorite material to work with?

    Rayon of Bamboo.  It can be velour, fleece or flannel.  It's just so soft!!!

How long has your shop been open?

   Since Feb 2010.

Personal bio:    

    My name is Samantha Levesque and I have been married to my best friend Patrick for just over 8 years. Together we have 3 beautiful daughters and one baby boy (so far).  I used to be a Manufacturing Engineer, but soon after my oldest was born I couldn't wait to come home to her.  So once our second one came along, I decided that it was more beneficial for me to stay home with the kids than to work outside the home.  I wanted to reduce our monthly budget and got into cloth diapering.  I discovered I really enjoyed manufacturing my own diapers and wanted to share it with others and that is how NorthernMom Diapers & Gifts was born.

Getting to know Colibi Creations

What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?

      I started selling online through discussion boards, and wanted something more shop-like, without having to spend hours setting up Zen Cart

How did your shop name originate?

      In the 90s, a friend of mine saw the word in Europe and we stared to make word games with it.  Then I chose Colibi as my username on a few boards.  And after a while it became an obvious choice, as it is easy to pronounce in English and French.

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?

       I love reading, I am a compulsive book buyer.  I also love to sew for my family and friends.  Lately I have an urge to sew little girl clothing.

What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?
