Wool Covers from Baby Snickerdoodles

Heather from Baby Snickerdoodles makes wonderful wool diaper covers.  Learn more about them in this interview by Denise from Naps and Scraps...

Did you design this pattern for your wool covers yourself?
For longies, and this Skirtie, yes I did...but that is somewhat of a trick question :) I don't actually have a pattern I go to for them, just measurements I keep documented from my own experience with children/sizes. This leaves creative flexibility to be able to do different styles depending on the customers needs, and also broadens the possibilities for each upcycled sweater I use. For my wool soakers though, I love to use the "Katrina's pattern" most of the time.

What is unique about your product?
I know there are fantastic wool-cover makers out there, but I love that with Etsy, we can offer different options, ESPECIALLY when it comes to one-of-a-kind items! I really like being able to offer my longies in a "pants" style, so that they can be worn for warmth and cuteness, as well as functioning as a diaper cover...creating something useful for daily life, and making it affordable for families.

How did you get started making wool diaper covers?
My Boys were super-soakers, and were constantly waking up drenched, even with their pocket diapers STUFFED! I was about to throw the towel in on cloth diapering, when I found an online forum where other mamas explained their solutions to a super soaker...WOOL! :)

I knew how to sew, so I bought a wool sweater at our local goodwill, and made all of my 3 boys longies out of it (it was and XXL, tee hee!). I was blown away at how well it worked! Dry bedding, even when their diapers were still drenched..the wool was an answer to my prayers! I shared my experience with family, friends, and online groups, and started getting many requests for orders. The rest is history!

What made you decide to sell on Etsy?
I had heard about Etsy from a friend, and got on to buy supplies for making gifts for my family for Christmas. When I started venturing out into WAHMhood, my customer base got too big to keep track of things via e-mail, I decided it was time to launch my own shop, and Etsy was the perfect fit!

I hope you enjoy checking out Baby Snickerdoodles yourself and looking at all her cute soakers and longies as well as the other fun stuff that Heather sews!

Review of Kailyn, the creator of Spotty Dog Crochet on Etsy

Recently I got to talk to a very special mom named Kailyn. Kailyn is the creative director behind Spotty Dog Crochet on Etsy. She is a valuable member of the Etsy Cloth Diaper team. Kailyn's main craft is crochet. She makes beautiful items. Go take a look at her shop. http://www.etsy.com/shop/kaimedeiros

Here is a couple pictures I borrowed from Kailyn to show case her art!
Photobucket
A beautiful red and blue set of wool Longies, I just want to eat them up. They are so cool looking!

and a sweet ruffled wool soaker, perfect for that princess in your life!

So now I am on to the questions, here are a couple of the questions I asked Kailyn and her perfect responses! Take a look at her shop when you are done, you will have your mind blown on how cool her art is.

How did you get started on Etsy?
I had some friends who were using Etsy, mostly as buyers, and they suggested I check it out. I started selling on Etsy but it took me a couple years to start really getting the hang of it. Now, I am working for a temp agency and focusing almost entirely on my shop / craft fairs.

What makes your products unique?
Almost all of my items are my own patterns that I have worked hard to design. Also, I strongly encourage my buyers to customize their orders with me. I love to make items that have been "designed" by the customer.

Do you also sell your products locally in your community (craft fairs, consignment stores, etc)?
I just started selling at craft fairs. My first one was small but I managed a few sales. My second one is coming up in November and it should be much larger. I am enjoying getting started on craft fairs, its a great way to connect with potential customers.
What would somebody who is totally new to cloth diapering need to know about your product(s)?
The products that I make for cloth diapers are wool soakers and wool longies (pants). I started making these for family members (they asked me to try it out) and they have become my biggest selling items. Wool is an amazing fiber that is absorbent, dries quickly and has anti-bacterial qualities.

What is your inspiration or passion behind the type of product you make?
Because I make my own patterns, each of my items becomes a piece of me. I love to try new things and am constantly mixing things up, just to see how it comes out.
What is your favorite item you sell?
My favorite item to sell is my Wool Soaker. They are fun to make and can be made in so many color combinations and styles. Recently I made one with a little skirt around it and I just got an order for one with little ruffles across the back that I can't wait to start on.
Why choose your product?
Choose my product because it is 100% customizable. You can choose the colors, the type of yarn, the style, everything! I love making new things and am happy to try whatever ideas you have. I take my work very seriously, and can get the majority of my orders out within a week.

Don't forget to look at Kailyn's shop and possibly buy something. http://www.etsy.com/shop/kaimedeiros?ref=seller_info

One Size Fits Most Wool Diaper Covers - Shorties and Longies

Introducing The Ribbie! This is a NEW and Unique design from La Petite Krott Creations!! In this time of economic uncertainty, La Petite Krott understands the importance of affordable and reusable products. This is the reason I designed the one size fits most Ribbie. This should fit from about 15lbs to 35lbs, depending on the baby of course. No need to buy a different size every few months...the Ribbie should last you forever!

The Ribbie features vertical ribbing throughout the entire piece, making it super stretchy. The rise is high enough to cover any diaper, even bulky nighttime ones. This can be folded down for smaller babies. These are knitted in the round, so there are no seams making it stretchy all the way around! I made the rear wider than the front, giving it extra room for the diaper. These are available as shorties or longies. For the longies style, you will need to fold up or scrunch up the legs (like leg warmers) to fit the smaller babies.

The Ribbie is made with 100% peruvian highland wool. Available in many colours and custom orders are welcomed :)

Wool is a great alternative to petroleum based diaper covers. They wick away moisture from the diaper, allowing it to evaporate. They can absorb up to 40% of their own weight before feeling wet. They are also breathable, anti-bacterial, fire resistant, and all natural! What more could you want?

Kristie Lynn Board Shorties Crochet Pattern

Well, my beautiful baby girl finally arrived, and now I am getting back to work on my patterns! I've been working on getting this pattern finished for a long time, but I finally have it done--and just in time for summer! These shorties are so cute and so easy to make.

As you can see, they look adorable on my son, but they would be cute for a girl too! I included instructions for a little flower to put on to make them even more girly, 'cause I know people can mistake a girl for a boy--even if she's in pink--but flowers are unmistakable! I have more patterns on the way, too, including one much like my star shorties, but with a car on the bum for the boys.

Ruffle Bum Shorties (or Longies!) Crochet Pattern

My adorable Ruffle Bum Shorties pattern is finally ready to go! This is my first really girly pattern, and I think it turned out quite well! My wee man was kind enough to model them for me too!

The rise and length are easily adjusted to fit your little girl, just like with my other patterns. This one is a tad more difficult, though, and probably is not best for beginners (my striped pattern is perfect for beginners, though!). This pattern ties with a simple "belt" rather than braided strands as my other patterns do.

I also have a cute boy shorties pattern coming soon! You can see all my patterns in my etsy shop.

Adorabubble Knits

Because your baby deserves the best. All items are hand knit out of high quality natural fibers, some organic. Heirloom quality items your child will want to pass down to their children. I offer knitting patterns in addition to my handknits. I love teaching knitting, so all my patterns are as easy to follow as possible and come with lots of support.

Check out my new design, Turtle Butt! I will be adding new color options daily during the next week. If the one listed isn't the size you would like, I would love to make a custom cover for you. I have so much fun making these!

Lastly, a little bit about me. I've been knitting for 6 years and designing for 3 of those years. I've worked in the fashion industry as a designer's assistant and after encouragement from her, decided to launch my own business for children. I also teach knitting classes at my local yarn store. With 3 boys of my own, ages 1-7, I'm always on the look out for cute boy designs which are hard to find.

Introducing Dutch Baby Dudz

I have learned so much about cloth diapering since my son was born nearly two years ago! (I can't believe my baby is almost two!) We began our cloth-diapering adventure with prefolds and ProWrap covers--a perfectly acceptable and functional diapering system--but in the last year and a half, I have fallen in love with making and using fitted diapers and hand-knit and hand-crocheted wool covers. And so Dutch Baby Dudz was born.

My first venture into the cloth diaper business was with hand-crocheted longies and shorties created using the Ladybugz Farms patterns. (I am a Ladybugz licensed reseller.) Wool is such an amazing fiber. It absorbs and repels moisture. It's naturally antibacterial. It keeps the wearer warm in winter and cool in summer. It's breathable. All this makes it ideal for covering cloth diapered bottoms. I have also learned that crochet is a perfect medium from which to create diapering woolies because it creates a thick fabric that contains wetness very well. A few examples of my wooly wares:

A recent addition to the Dutch Baby Dudz line of products is the one-size-fits-most flannel pocket fitted diaper. This particular style is very simple to use. There are no snap settings to figure out or complicated folding to do. Just fold over the front or the back to make the rise fit your baby. It also has extra long wings that allow for a great range of waist sizes. This diaper is fastened with a single pin (or with two pins if necessary for a chubbier baby or toddler). Don’t like pins? You can also lay the diaper inside a snug cover and wrap it around the baby without fastening the diaper at all. Besides being soft, quick drying, and extremely easy to use, it is reversible. Two cute prints in one! Plus, the pocket style allows you to insert however much absorbency you need—just stuff with an infant prefold, microfiber towel, or other insert of your choice. For very little money, you can have a whole stash of adorable diapers that may fit your child from birth to potty learning. Here are some examples:

I hope you'll stop by my shop and take a look around. I am currently well stocked with wool longies, and I will soon be stocking wool shorties and soakers for spring. I also have some one-size flannel diapers in stock and will be adding more soon.
