Getting to know WeeEssentials:

What got you started in selling items in your Etsy shop?
It was a fluke, really.  I was making soap to sell at craft fairs and I had a little extra.  I had seen soap bits before and I used the extra to make some.  They weren't great, but over the years I've perfected my recipe!  My other items were added as I was inspired to replace other disposable items in my home - menstrual pads, liners, paper towels, nursing pads, wipes, etc.
Where did your shop name originate?
The name "WeeEssentials" comes from the fact that life requires lots of little things to run smoothly.  My products are not only eco-friendly, but they fill a very practical need.
What is one piece of advice you wish someone would have told you when you started cloth diapering?
Make sure you have a big enough stash of diapers to last a few days - if you don't, it makes diapering really frustrating!  My third child is the first to have a more-than-adequate stash, and it's so much less stressful - and I'm not as likely to run out of diapers!
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not sewing/working for your shop?
I love knitting, dyeing and spinning yarn.  But other than crafting, I love to spend time working on a puzzle with my eldest or cuddling with my younger two.  It never lasts long, but I soak in every minute I can get.
What is your current favorite item in your shop, and why?
It's a newly designed wet bag with three pockets - two zippers and one velcro.  I really struggled to figure out how to design this, and one morning I woke up with an Aha! moment.  I'm really surprised it hasn't sold, but then again,  I don't really like the fabric (or I'd take it myself!) Maybe I'm not the only one!
What is your favorite material to work with?
I love, love, love cotton wovens.  I've quilted in the past, and there is just something so satisfactory about cutting it, sewing it, and the feel of it in your hands!
How long has your shop been open?
I've been selling on Etsy since June of 2008.
Personal bio:
I graduated from college with a degree in Spanish Language and Literature and also in Media Communications.  I worked as a translator and ESL teacher for an elementary school for a few years before having my first child, and since then, I've been using my marketing skills building a business instead of my Spanish skills.  I am a work-at-home mom for three children - Gabe, 4.5 years; Ezra, almost 2 years, and Maddie, who is 3 months old, and I have been married for 10 years now.  We just moved to Nashville right before Christmas of last year, and we're renovating a beautiful-but-decrepit 105 year old farmhouse.  I love learning old skills like canning and quilting - if we really do lose our electronics in 2012, we'll be ready! :)  Needless to say, we keep busy!
