"Dump" recipes are time savers - Dump Swiss Steak

Here on the Etsy Cloth Diaper Team blog, we're starting weekly feature articles. Sunday will rotate between family friendly recipes and crafts. We hope that you find something that you can use in your daily life and enjoy the posts!!

******************************************************************

Have you heard of "dump" recipes? We started making them during our once a month cooking (OAMC) sessions for our family, and they are a super time saver. Make a few at a time, use one that night, and freeze the rest! Instant meals later in the month. They get the name "dump recipes" because you simply dump ingredients together into a ziploc bag and it's ready to go!!! SIMPLE. QUICK. TASTY!

Here's one of our family's favorites:

Dump Swiss Steak for OAMC

  • 1 lb round steak (approx)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  •  1/2 (1 1/4 ounce) package beef and onion soup mix (dry)
  •  1/2 (1 1/4 ounce) package brown gravy mix (dry)
  • mashed potatoes
1. Cut steaks into portion sized pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients together in a gallon ziploc bag. (You can brown meat first if desired, but not necessary.).
3. Freeze at this stage, if desired. (Note: If frozen, thaw before baking).
4. Transfer to baking dish, Bake covered at 350 for 1 ½ hours.
5. Serve over mashed potatoes.
Notes:  The portions are for 2-3 servings each because it fits really well in a gallon ziploc bag. You could double it and it would probably still fit. Freezes very well. Plan to make two sets and you'll use up your packages of ingredients. Also, works well in crockpot - cook on low 6-8 hours (even from frozen). Also, I've used plain onion soup mix and the taste is still great. This recipe, reviews, and photos can also be found posted on food.com. Enjoy!
